Person-Centred Counselling
A safe, confidential space to explore, understand, and move forward
How I Can Help
Sometimes life presents challenges that feel overwhelming - bereavement, illness, relationship difficulties, anxiety, or simply feeling stuck. Counselling provides a safe, confidential space to explore your feelings, understand yourself better, and find your way forward.
I practice person-centred counselling, developed by Carl Rogers - a humanistic therapy that believes in people's innate capacity for growth and self-understanding. It focuses on creating a non-judgmental and empathetic environment to help you explore your feelings and thoughts.

My Approach
My role isn't to give advice or tell you what to do, but to provide a warm, non-judgmental space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings at your own pace. I provide unconditional positive regard, empathy, and genuineness, allowing you to lead sessions and find your own solutions for personal growth.
I'm also trained in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which can be particularly helpful for managing difficult emotions and moving toward the life you want to live.
Who I Work With
I have experience supporting people through a wide range of challenges:
Bereavement & Loss
Not just the loss of a loved one, but other significant losses in life - relationships, jobs, health, identity.
Life-Limiting Illness
Supporting patients, survivors, and their families through cancer and other serious health conditions.
Anxiety & Stress
Understanding and managing difficult feelings, worry, and overwhelming thoughts.
Depression
Finding hope and connection when everything feels heavy and hopeless.
Relationship Difficulties
Exploring patterns, finding clarity, and making decisions about relationships.
Life Transitions
Navigating change, uncertainty, and finding your way through difficult circumstances.
My own experience as a two-time cancer survivor and someone who has navigated significant life challenges means I bring genuine understanding to these conversations.
What to Expect
First Session
Our first session is an opportunity for us to meet, discuss what brings you to counselling, and see if we're a good fit to work together. There's no pressure - this is your time to ask questions and decide if counselling feels right for you.
Ongoing Sessions
Sessions are typically 50 minutes and take place in a comfortable, private setting. You lead the conversation, exploring whatever feels important to you. I'm there to listen, understand, and support you in making sense of your experience.
Confidentiality
Everything we discuss is completely confidential within professional boundaries. What happens in our sessions stays between us, creating a safe space for honest exploration.

What Clients Say
"I lost my mum on top of several other recent bereavements and Steve helped me understand that it was ok to take longer than I thought was normal, to process what had happened. Steve made it possible for me to start that process as I knew he was right there with me."
— Client
"I can't thank Steve enough, I'm not sure where I would be right now if it wasn't for his help and support. Steve listens without interrupting and really helped me understand what was going on for me."
